Village Updates

COVID VACCINE

Published on 2/5/2021

From:  NE Village PDX Governing Council

To:  NE Village PDX Members and Volunteers

Now that Covid vaccine is becoming available in the Portland metro area, we’re reaching out to the NE Village PDX community to share information that may be helpful.  Please note that this information changes often, and what we are providing in this message is the best information available as of Friday, February 5.  We will do our best to keep you updated as major changes occur, and we encourage you to monitor the web sites listed at the end of this message if you are able to do so.  NE Village is not making health recommendations related to Covid vaccination; we are only providing information to help you make your own health decisions.

When will I be eligible?  The Oregon Health Authority determines the sequence for vaccination and when you can register for an appointment.  At this time, vaccinations are by appointment only, and appointments are subject to availability of the vaccine.  The schedule below shows when you are eligible to register for an appointment —but does not guarantee when you will be vaccinated.  Since vaccine is still in short supply, it may take several weeks for everyone in each age group to receive their shots.

You can register beginning…

If you are…

February 8

80 and older

February 15

75 and older

February 22

70 and older

March 1

65 and older

Where can I be vaccinated?  Currently, the primary vaccination site in the Portland metro area is located at

Oregon Convention Center

777 NE Martin Luther King Blvd

How do I register for an appointment at the Convention Center?  You can register on-line or by phone. In each case you will need to answer a series of questions to confirm eligibility and then choose an appointment slot.  These fill very quickly, so it may take several attempts to secure an appointment.

Online:  https://covidvaccine.oregon.gov/  Scroll down to find Vaccine Eligibility and FAQ Tool (or click on orange circle in bottom right corner of your screen).

Telephone:  971-268-5550  Call early in the AM if you can; wait times can be long.

Be prepared to walk some distance (it’s a large building); mobility devices (walkers, wheelchairs) are available, but the supply is limited.  If you have a mobility device, be sure to take it with you.  A canvas chair or other portable chair might be helpful while you wait.

For individuals with mobility problems or other physical limitations that make visiting the Convention Center difficult,OHSU operates a weekend drive-thru site located in the Red Economy Lot at Portland International Airport. The site is open Saturday and Sunday only and all slots for February 6 and 7 are full at this time. Slots for subsequent weekends will open on Monday mornings and remain available until filled; call early to secure a spot.

Important things to know:

  • There is no age requirement at this site, but registration is limited to those who have mobility issues (use walker, cane, wheelchair, etc.).

  • If you have a live-in caregiver (spouse, other), this individual may be registered for vaccination at the same time.

  • Waiting is involved; it may take 2-3 hours to receive your vaccination at this site.

Telephone:  833-647-8222  (Option 3, then Option 1)

Other sites may open as the vaccine supply increases, and we will update this message as more information becomes available.

How can NE Village help?  Village volunteers will be making phone calls to ask if you need assistance with

  • Determining eligibility

  • Registering for a vaccination

  • Transportation to and from a vaccination site

Calls will be made in order of eligibility listed above. If you are 80 or older, you should receive a call during the week of February 8.  Villagers of any age who have mobility issues will also be contacted this week.

If you have questions in the meantime, please contact the Village Office Manager, Lindsey Oldani at 503-895-2750 or officemanager@nevillagepdx.org.
