Become a Volunteer

Volunteers are the heart of the Village. There are countless ways that volunteers enable the Village to thrive. They provide support to members through services (transportation, social visits, etc) as well as organizationally by serving on "teams" (membership, marketing & outreach, etc). 

While the impetus to volunteer is typically to help others, we hear from many of our volunteers that they often feel that they get as much out of the friendships that they form as what they give. Other benefits of volunteering include:

  • Connecting with others - being part of our Village community
  • Putting talents, skills and capacities to good use

    Steps to Becoming a Volunteer

    If you are interested in volunteering, the first step is to attend an Introduction to Volunteering presentation, typically held monthly at various locations in NE Portland (see our Events calendar for info). After that, you will need to complete an application (see link below) and be interviewed by the Village Manager. All volunteers are also required to pass background and reference checks. Once those steps have been completed, volunteers need to attend a Volunteer Training. More information about the process: Steps to Becoming a Volunteer

    Transportation is one of our most requested services. For volunteers who wish to provide rides for Northeast Village PDX members, there are additional steps, including a driver application and training. More information about the process: Steps for Becoming a Driver.
