NEV: Bi-Weekly Update 08/24/2020

Lindsey D Oldani | Published on 8/24/2020

Happy Monday Villagers,

This week’s update has voters ballot drop off locations and options for how your NEV community can assist you with this, upcoming Village events and a reminder about the NEV annual meeting!

VOTERS’ ASSISTANCE

Election season is upon us! While many people will choose to mail in their ballots, the Village can provide help to people who wish to use the drop box. Would you like to help Villagers get their ballot to the drop box? Do you need assistance getting your ballot in this year? Curious about where the closest Drop Off Ballot Box is at in your neighborhood?

OFFICIAL DROP OFF BALLOT BOXES

If you are a member and would like to have a volunteer take your ballot to an official drop box please, call the office 503-895-2750 to request this service.

If you are a volunteer and you would like to take ballots to the nearby drop box please, email the office atinfo@nevillagepdx.orgto add your name to the list of willing volunteers.

MEMBERSHIP TERM EXTENSION

In the last (7/27/2020) Bi-Weekly Update we announced that, because of the disruption of Village activities and services during the past months, members renewing on or after September 1, 2020 may opt to have a three-month extension of their membership term at no additional cost.

Some members have asked for more information regarding this offer, so here is a more detailed explanation: This offer applies only to current members as of August 31, 2020, and only to a member’s next renewal term. At the time of their renewal, each member may choose to extend the term of their renewed membership by one, two, or three months, or not extend it at all. There will be no additional charge for any of these options.

For example, for members paying annually, if your current term expires on September 30, 2020, and you elect to extend your new term for two months, your new term will not expire until November 30,2021.Thereafter, your renewal terms will expire on November 30. For members paying monthly, when your current annual term expires you will have the same options as shown above. Using the same example, your new annual term would be extended to November 30, 2021but no monthly payments would be due for October and November 2021.These term extensions will delay the receipt of Village revenue used to pay for ongoing operations. We have adequate funds to accommodate these delays, but hope that some members will elect to extend for less than three months in order to reduce the impact on our budget.

During this time of "safer at home" we are missing many familiar activities and people. In this 90 minute peer-lead Zoom session we'll set aside wants and reflect on what we truly need now.

This list of human needs will be our starting point.

Village Walks for Members or Volunteers

Are you interested in small walking groups of 4-6 villagers? We would love to hear from you. Several of us would enjoy a small group walking experience in the neighborhoods or possibly a destination walk. We have suggestions for 9:30 am and 10:00 am walks (or strolls) for villagers throughout the week and on Sunday.

If you are interested, please email Susan Gilson atwascocat@comcast.net. We will collect information on interests and get back to you.

PATIO PICNICS

Would you enjoy a patio picnic (lunch or dinner) with another Village member? Savor the season and get outside before the rains come.

To host a picnic you need to have space to accommodate one or two other people at a minimum of 6 feet apart. Each member will provide their own dishes, utensils, napkins, food and beverage.

Any village member can participate as long as you have a space to host or can travel to another member's home or a park if you want to picnic there. To join in the summer outdoor fun call the office (503-895-2750) or Julie Granger (971-266-7670) and give the following information.

1. Whether you can host or not.

2. Would you prefer a lunch or dinner picnic?

3. Your name and number.

You will be matched and together you can plan your picnic!

Office Hours: Monday through Thursday 10 am to 3pm
