NEV: Friday Update for 3/20/20

Lindsey D Oldani | Published on 3/20/2020

Happy Friday Villagers,

Village leaders and volunteers want to continue to serve our community in the best way possible during this crisis. Last Friday we sent out a letter detailing the types of services our Village can still perform. Continuing in this fashion, every other Friday we will send out updates regarding resources, events, services, etc... If you ever have questions or want more information about happenings within the Village please call the office during normal business hours and someone will assist you promptly.

Contact information for the Village Office is at the end of this email.

Services: Temporary boundaries were set last week, designating essential services as priorities for our Village members. These are in effect through April 8th; at that time they will be reevaluated. If you or someone in the Village that you know needs a ride to a medical appointment, is in need of groceries or picking up a prescription at the pharmacy, or would like to connect with others socially, please call or email the office. There are many service volunteers ready and willing to help out.

Garden Yard Parties: Scheduling for Spring Yard Parties opened last Monday. Thank you to everyone who called in to sign-up. If this is something you are interested in or need please call or email to schedule. There are 10 slots left.

A Note to Associate Members: A friendly reminder that you are entitled to 4 services a year. Now might be just the opportunity you’ve been waiting for! Avoid getting out to the grocery store and have someone do this for you.

Village Cancellations:  While some events are happening in new ways with the use of online platforms, some have been cancelled. We will continue to update our online calendar when this occurs.

  • Life Stories Writing Workshop series has been cancelled.

  • SING-ALONG / JAM with the “TROOM JAMMERS” event has been cancelled.

  • IMPORTANCE OF ADVANCE PLANNING FOR HEALTHCARE (2nd Presentation) has been cancelled.

Online Events:  Are you wanting to plan a virtual event? Are you hoping to migrate your current event to a new online space?  The Village has now set up a Zoom account to help facilitate this connection. If you are interested in using Zoom when hosting a meeting or event, please reach out to the office via email or phone. The office manager will set up the virtual space and you will be sent a link to share with your attendees.

*This does not otherwise affect the way you have been planning events or meetings. Please, continue to set up or plan these in the same fashion. This is for a Zoom link.*

Phone Tree: Currently, the office volunteers are working on a phone survey to gauge  interest in a phone tree of some sort. Full Service Members will be hearing from someone early next week to chat about how we might all continue to stay connected virtually and mitigate some of the negative impacts that social isolation has on all of us. If you are interested in participating in this type of volunteer activity or you are interested in receiving a regular call from someone in the Village,  email or call the office.

Outside Resources & Opportunities: We understand that this current crisis has the potential to create a new set of circumstances for many and leave some in need of a variety of resources. From food to housing assistance, access to the internet or even the desire to serve our greater community; there are many services and resources available that were not prior to the pandemic.  If you are looking for assistance or guidance outside organizations have put together lists that the office can share with you. Call or email us directly to get more information.

COVID Updates:  We want to reiterate the need to access up-to-date and reliable sources when seeking guidance or information related to the Coronavirus. Below you will find links to those.
