Northeast Village PDX was formed and developed by volunteers.
Village Steering Committee
Teri McKenzie (Village Manager, VSC Co-Chair)
Teri joined NEV as a staff member in December 2021. She grew up in rural Ohio where she gained a deep love of Nature. A returned Peace Corps volunteer and inveterate humanitarian, Teri has decades of experience in both the nonprofit sector and in higher education. With a Masters degree in Whole Systems Design/Nonprofit Leadership and drawing inspiration from the teachings of the natural world, she is committed to community building and making the world a better place for all Beings. In her spare time, Teri loves to travel, listen to music garden and spend time with her (now-grown) children and friends.
Bill Farver
Bill began his involvement with NEV as a volunteer for the Partners Program taking walks with members for health and companionship. He served on the planning team that oversaw the merger of the Village with the Northeast Community Center (NECC). He is knowledgeable about the NECC, having served in the past as Board President for six years. Before retirement, Bill worked as a public sector administrator for over twenty years.
Anne Foley
Anne moved to Portland in 2011 having lived on the east coast, mostly in the NYC area, until then. She has been involved with the Northeast Village as a volunteer and Associate Member since its inception. She looks forward to continuing her involvement as a member of the Village Steering Committee as the Village continues to grow and serve our community. Prior to her retirement, Anne worked as a Systems Analyst and Director of Information Systems.
Anne gets great pleasure out of spending time with her two daughters and their families, one here and one in Colorado. She enjoys reading, gardening, music, art, international foods, spending time with friends and living in an urban environment so close to the coast and the mountains.
Michelle Fitzgerald
Michelle became a volunteer with NE Village in 2023 with a wish to serve seniors in her community. As a local real estate agent specializing in working with seniors, volunteering seemed like a natural extension of the work she does with her clients. Michelle has served on many boards and has extensive experience in project management and long-term planning. Having worked at many international schools as the Head Librarian she often was responsible for setting the vision, creating long-term strategies and managing large budgets. She enjoys being able to problem solve and design innovative solutions to best meet the needs and build community. Her passion centers in building community amongst her neighbors and creating opportunities for deeper connection, like a newly formed walking group for anyone in the Concordia area.
Anne Heimlich
Although Anne first learned of the Villages Northwest in 2016, she only very recently became both a Volunteer and a Member of NE Village. She grew up influenced by big city culture (Los Angeles) and rural service-oriented Quaker values (Pennsylvania.) Mixed in is a healthy dose of ultra-progressive college (Antioch) and a brief stint in law school (Portland, OR.) For over 30 years, Anne taught in public, private, and charter schools in the Portland Metro Area, with a focus on experiential education and building communities of learners be they children or adults. In retirement, Anne volunteers with the Great Old Broads for Wilderness, the Portland Fruit Tree Project, the Portland Neighborhood Emergency Team Network, and with several animal rescue organizations. Her interests include gardening, dancing, playing ukulele, cooking, and quilting.
Jan Hively
Jan recently moved to Portland from the East Coast with her partner, Tom Lacy, to be near family. After careers in City of Minneapolis planning and administration, Jan retired from employment, earned a PhD at the University of Minnesota focused on productive aging, and began developing vital aging networks including the global Pass It On Network of positive aging advocates.
Steve Parker (Co-Chair)
Steve is a native of NE Portland. He retired a few years ago from a career as a healthcare executive. Steve enjoys staying active with outdoor activities, traveling with his wife, reading, and dining out. In addition to NEV, Steve volunteers with meals on Wheels and as a CASA.
Kathleen Walsh
Kathleen immigrated to the United States as a very young child when her family moved to California from Canada. Her Australians parents roamed the world a bit before settling in the San Francisco Bay Area, where she grew up.
The sense of cultural possibility radiating from that place and time—the West Coast 60’s and ‘70’s--led her to pursue human potential as a career. She completed undergraduate and graduate degrees in psychology and worked, initially, with young children and families in mental health treatment settings. Her move to Portland in 1994 was prompted by a desire for a less hectic, yet urban lifestyle. She worked for a small, private psychiatric hospital as a counselor, established and coordinated a dual diagnosis adolescent mental health program for the hospital in Yamhill County and set up a private practice in SE Portland.
In retirement since 2016, she enjoys traveling and visiting friends and family around the world, delving into her Irish and English heritage by documenting her ancestral roots, learning to play the Irish tin whistle, which she calls “brain-training”, hiking, cooking and volunteering for social change groups.
Kim Williams (Co-Chair)
Kim joined NEV in 2022 after she and her husband (fellow NEV member Chris Rauber) moved to Portland from the San Francisco Bay Area to be near family and explore the Northwest. Kim had a 40 year career in finance and business operations spanning non-profit and industry research and development, education and financial services. She served as Chief Financial Officer for four organizations, and retired in 2018 as CFO of Lawrence Berkeley National Lab, a federally- funded laboratory that conducts unclassified research and development to address the world’s most urgent scientific challenges. In her free time, Kim loves to walk, read, do arts and crafts, and go on adventures. Kim and Chris have two wonderful daughters, two terrific sons-in-law, three delightful grandkids, and one sweet little dog.
