The geographic boundaries of Northeast Village PDX are based on several criteria:
1) Based on the experience of other Villages nation-wide, to be viable a Village needs to have approximately 8,000 to 10,000 residents over age 65, as determined by census data.
2) There will eventually be several Villages in the Portland area. Therefore, each Village should attempt to reach this number but not exceed it, in order that adjacent Villages will have sufficient population numbers. For instance, a Village is already forming in the area south of I-84, between the river on the west and 122nd Ave on the east, and another is forming in North Portland and the area of Northeast Portland between the river and our west side boundary.
3) The Village area should be as compact as possible, so that services can be effectively provided without excessively long travel times.
