  • We’ll begin at the exit from the MAX stop at the Zoo

This month we will step up our game, taking the 4 T trail (trail, tram, trolley, and train).  We’ll begin at the exit from the MAX stop at the Zoo, then take a brisk uphill hike to Council Crest Park (the highest point in the city.) Then we’ll walk, mostly downhill, to OHSU, where we’ll board the tram and glide down to the riverfront. From there, we’ll board the trolley (Portland Streetcar) and ride to the heart of downtown Portland.  There we can stop for a well-earned lunch at a food cart or a restaurant.  After lunch, we’ll hop on MAX and return to the Zoo to complete the loop.

The hiking/walking distance is about 4 miles, and the initial leg is uphill, with some steep trails that can be muddy in wet weather. Because it’s a longer trip than our usual walks, we will start earlier in the morning.  The full loop will take us between 3 and 4 hours.  Bring your Tri-Met pass for the trolley and train; the tram will be free since we’re going downhill.
